Belter made a variety of chairs that appear
to have been designed for use in the dining
room or library. It is most most common
to see these chairs in mahogany or oak rather
than rosewood. These chairs all have laminated
wood backs, the same as all other Belter
chairs. The designs of these chairs are
consistent with the designs of Belter parlor
furniture in the use of arabesques to frame
the perimeter of chair backs, and some of
the designs are made up completely of arabesques.
While these chairs are often pierced carved,
their designs are often much simpler than
on pierced carved parlor furniture and they
typically have less carved decoration than
pierced carved parlor furniture. Dining
room and library chairs are constructed
in the typical Belter way and you identify
them as Belter in the same way a parlor
chair would be identified.
