ANTIQUES BY LISE BOHM
P.O. Box 24341
Edina MN 55424

email bohmlise@aol.com

In addition to Belter furniture, Lise also sells furniture by Meeks, Herter, Horner, and others. Lise often has lamps and clocks.

Lise does not do appraisals, but she does publish a book I recommend you buy if you want to learn more about John Henry Belter's furniture. The book is "THE FURNITURE OF JOHN HENRY BELTER AND THE ROCOCO REVIVAL" by Marvin D. Schwartz, Edward J. Stanek and Douglas K. True.

This book, originally published by E.P. Dutton, is an inquiry into nineteenth century furniture design through a study of the Gloria and Richard Manney collection. The book was first published in conjunction with an exhibition of Belter furniture organized by the Museum of our National Heritage in 1981. This book is THE difinitive publication about Belter furniture, and if you own only one book on the subject this is the book you want.

NEW ORLEANS AUCTION GALLERY, INC.
801 Magazine Atreet
New Orleans, LA 70130
1.800.501.0277/504.501.0277
www.neworleansauction.com

New Orleans Auction Gallery never responded to my request to include them in this listing, probably because they are so busy consigning great antiques and preparing wonderful catalogs for their next auction.

If they complain about being included in our resources section I promise to remove them immediately.

Because they did not return my inquiry about their services, I cannot say for sure exactly what services New Orleans Auction Gallery does provide, but I do know they sell a lot of great Belter furniture. If I were planning to sell, or buy Belter furniture at auction I would call them.

New Orleans Auction Gallery surely has several people on staff knowledgeable about Belter furniture, but I would ask for Thomas Halverson. I have known Tom for many years and I would completely trust his condition reports, his estimates of value and any other advice he might offer about Belter furniture..

M.S. RAU ANTIQUES
630 Royal Street
New Orleans LA 70130
1.800.544.9440/504.523.5660
www.rauantiques.com

M.S. Rau Antiques sells and buys Belter furniture. M.S. Rau Antiques appraises Belter furniture.

"This company has been in business since 1912 and carries a wide selection of antique American, English and Continental furnishings, canes, silver, porcelain, paintings, cut glass, jewelry, and objets d'art."

That is what they said about their store.

I say you haven't been in a real antiques shop until you see M.S. Rau antiques at 630 Royal Street in New Orleans. This isn't just an antiques shop, this is THE ANTIQUES SHOP. I have travelled around a bit, and I've never seen a better store than this one.

I guarantee that no other store in the world has more Belter furniture on the floor and for sale than M.S. Rau Antiques. If he is in the store, ask for Bill Rau. I am sure he will offer you a Coke or a cup of good New Orleans coffee. Enjoy this place, because it is one of a kind.

Witherells sell's, buys and appraises Belter furniture.

You might remember Brian Witherell from THE ANTIQUES ROADSHOW on PBS. Brian and Brad Witherell specialize in Americana, especially anything related to the great state of California.

Brian Witherell is one of the few rare people I know who really loves what he does. Brian is without a doubt one of the most knowledgeable individuals you will ever talk with about Belter furniture because he learns about Belter furniture for the love of learning, not just for money.

If you only meet one person who buys and sells Belter furniture you should meet Brian Witherell.
